  • Employment rose by 32,800 in October, well above market expectations for a 20,000 gain.
  • The unemployment rate remained at 5%, as participation rose to 65.6%.
  • Annual jobs growth rose to a strong 2.5%, albeit it’s down from a high of 3.6% in January.
  • The quality of jobs growth remains strong with 42,300 new full time jobs and full time jobs growth running at 2.8% year on year compared to part time jobs growth of 1.8%.
  • Reflecting the strong rise in full time jobs, growth in hours worked remained strong at 0.3% month on month or 2.1% year on year.

Quite clearly the Australian jobs market remains robust, albeit the pace of jobs growth has slowed from that seen through last year and into early this year.
