Legend Mining uses seismic and AI/ML technology to deliver new Rockford nickel-copper targets

Legend Mining Ltd (ASX:LEG) has defined new nickel-copper sulphide drill targets within its Rockford Project in Western Australia’s Fraser Range using seismic combined with SensOre Ltd (ASX:S3N)’s artificial intelligence/machine learning technology (AI/ML) generated data.

Legend executive chair Mark Wilson said while the company had focused its fieldwork this year at Octagonal prospect, the new targets reflected the detailed work that had been progressing at Mawson and other regional prospects within the Rockford project.

“The drill target at Mawson is particularly exciting as the area is a confirmation of geology, geochemistry and geophysics.

"There is plenty to look forward to in 2024,” he said in an exploration update on the project.

Velseis Processing Pty Ltd completed the reprocessing of the 3D seismic cube at the Mawson nickel-copper-cobalt prospect by incorporating downhole and handheld petrophysical property data to fine-tune and verify a target area north of the deposit.

This area is believed to be an extension of the Mawson chonolith's keel beneath the Mawson fault.

Furthermore, recent data from SensOre’s SimClust machine learning analysis has independently corroborated the keel target zone, initially identified through diamond drilling, structural interpretation and new seismic modelling.

The SimClust results have revealed a geochemical signature in the keel zone identical to that found in the Mawson deposit zone.

Plans are now in progress for diamond drilling to explore this promising target area.

Fertile host

A maiden high-power fixed loop transient electromagnetic (HPFLTEM) survey has been planned for the Magnus intrusion, following a successful initial HPFLTEM survey conducted across the Octagonal area.

The prospectivity of the Magnus intrusion, indicated by a single diamond drill hole completed by Legend, suggests it could be a fertile host for Nova-Bollinger style nickel-copper sulphide deposit.

Survey design and planning are underway, with data acquisition for the Magnus intrusion expected to commence in April next year following the completion of an extended HPFLTEM survey at Octagonal.

Other high-priority targets

Across the regional Rockford project, SimClust analysis based on data from completed aircore drilling has revealed a geochemical signature similar to that of the Mawson-type nickel-copper intrusions.

These areas, identified as X and Y, have been labelled as high-priority targets and consequently, a comprehensive moving loop transient electromagnetic (MLTEM) survey has been planned to detect conductors in these regions.

Additionally, an MLTEM survey is set to be conducted in an area north of Mawson designated as Z.

This particular area, which has not undergone drilling, is thought to contain multiple mafic-ultramafic intrusions.

The commencement of the MLTEM surveys across these identified areas is also scheduled for April.
