Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , Iron & Steel and Optoelectronic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted fell 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Action Electronics Co Ltd (TW:3024), which rose 9.92% or 0.700 points to trade at 7.760 at the close. Merry Electronics Co Ltd (TW:2439) added 9.91% or 21.00 points to end at 233.00 and Sumagh High Tech Corp (TW:1475) was up 9.91% or 3.25 points to 36.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Powertech Technology Inc (TW:6239), which lost 5.00% or 5.20 points to trade at 98.80 in late trade. Taisun Enterprise Co Ltd (TW:1218) declined 4.79% or 1.15 points to end at 22.85 and Jung Shing Wire Co Ltd (TW:1617) shed 4.74% or 0.55 points to 11.05.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 448 to 302 and 131 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 1.00% or 0.48 to $48.37 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.78% or 0.39 to hit $50.59 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.59% or 7.39 to trade at $1244.71 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was up 0.05% to 30.368, while TWD/CNY fell 0.09% to 0.2222.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 94.03.
