Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Beverage, Insurance and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.50% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 3.72% or 6.60 points to trade at 184.00 at the close. Beazley PLC (LON:BEZG) added 3.04% or 19.50 points to end at 662.00 and RS Group PLC (LON:RS1R) was up 2.67% or 21.00 points to 808.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 3.92% or 14.10 points to trade at 345.90 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) declined 1.74% or 9.00 points to end at 508.50 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) shed 1.73% or 2.05 points to 116.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1027 to 750 and 732 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.11% or 2.45 to $2,326.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.78% or 0.61 to hit $78.99 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.48 to trade at $83.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.07% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 105.36.
