Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 2.15% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p), which rose 8.72% or 16450 points to trade at 205200 at the close. Sberbank (MCX:SBER) added 5.65% or 9.03 points to end at 168.98 and Rosneft (MCX:ROSN) was up 5.50% or 19.60 points to 375.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK), which lost 1.67% or 2.01 points to trade at 118.50 in late trade. Tatneft-3 (MCX:TATN) declined 1.35% or 5.70 points to end at 417.80 and United Company Rusal Plc (MCX:RUAL) shed 1.26% or 0.370 points to 29.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 140 to 83 and 21 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 4.14% to 23.880.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.40% or 4.75 to $1172.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.55% or 0.77 to hit $50.54 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.28% or 0.68 to trade at $53.68 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 0.14% to 63.2935, while EUR/RUB fell 1.32% to 67.159.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.89% at 101.17.
